Youth Track and Field in USA

Youth track and field in the United States is one of the most widely accessible sports for young athletes. Participation begins through school programs, local recreation leagues, and youth clubs affiliated with national organizations such as USA Track & Field (USATF) and the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU).

The sport includes a broad range of events, from sprints and distance races to hurdles, relays, jumps, and throws. Youth competitions are often divided into age groups, allowing athletes to compete against peers while developing technique and endurance. Summer club seasons and large invitational meets create opportunities for athletes to compete beyond school programs.

High school track and field is one of the largest participation sports in the country, with millions of students competing annually. Many athletes first gain recognition through state championship meets before advancing to national youth competitions and collegiate recruiting pathways.

Because the sport requires relatively simple equipment and facilities, track and field remains one of the most inclusive and scalable youth sports in the United States.
